Hello, I'm Alek!
A Cyber Security Engineer with a background in computer architecture, military communications, and cloud technologies. I’m looking for a role where I can apply my skills in system and network design, especially on projects that push me to think creatively and solve problems in innovative ways. I’ve got experience with programming and scripting in languages like Java, Python, Bash, and C, and I’m excited to work with teams where breaking new ground and continuous learning are just part of the job.
When I’m not working, you can usually find me outdoors. I grew up on a farm, so being outside and exploring comes naturally to me—whether it’s camping, hiking, or just enjoying nature. That same curiosity and drive to explore are what I bring to my work, always looking for new challenges and opportunities to grow.
About Me.
I have a diverse background that spans military service and formal education in cybersecurity. As a Non-Commissioned Officer and Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Operator and Maintainer (Army MOS 25S), I learned the importance of secure, reliable communications in high-stakes environments. In addition to my military experience, I spent about six months as a Microsoft Software and Systems Academy (MSSA) student, focusing on Server and Cloud Administration, where I worked with Azure, Active Directory, and other cloud-related tasks. This and my Cybersecurity Engineering degree from Iowa State University have given me a well-rounded skill set in systems security and development.
I’ve worked extensively with network infrastructure, including switches and VLANs. I’m proficient in several programming languages like Java, Python, C, and Assembly. I also have experience working with Cisco and Brocade systems. I’m comfortable in Linux and command-line environments,
where I often work on scripting with Bash and Python. Additionally,
I’ve dabbled in app development, working with Android and Java,
supported by a backend in SQL.
In addition to my strong technical skills, I’m also passionate about
cloud technologies, both in securing them and understanding the
underlying infrastructure. I’m eager to leverage this knowledge to
contribute to innovative projects that push the boundaries of
what’s possible in secure systems design.
In my personal time, I enjoy getting outside—whether it’s
snowboarding, going on camping trips with my dog, or just
exploring nature. I also love engaging in hands-on projects like
playing Hack The Box and experimenting with smaller setups,
such as building a Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) on a Raspberry Pi using SNORT. Applying my knowledge in creative ways, both professionally and in personal projects, is something I’m always excited about.
I thrive in collaborative, challenging environments where I can use my skills to solve problems and design new systems. Whether coding, networking, or exploring emerging technologies, I’m always looking for engaging work that keeps me excited and learning.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy reading about my journey and insights!
